Art at the intersection of the mechanical and natural
Tuesday 17 September 2024
Join us for a talk exploring the practice of artists behind the exhibition Light in Motion featuring multisensory storyteller Grace Boyle in conversation with designers and artists from the exhibition ‘Light in Motion’ to share insights into their innovative practices that bridge the gap between modern technology and the natural world.
Surrounded by the mesmerising light-based works and installations of the Light in Motion exhibition, Grace Boyle in conversation with Duncan Carter, Dev Joshi, Sophie Mei Birkin, and Maria Vera will delve into the intricate relationship between the rigid and binary nature of technological components and the fluid, circular motifs of natural phenomena that are a recurring theme throughout the exhibition, exploring the concepts of circadian rhythms, orbital paths, and the passage of time.
The discussion will highlight how the notions of oscillation, harmony, and repetition manifest in both the complex natural phenomena inspiring these works and the underlying code and components used in their creation. This duality underscores our innate desire to reconnect with nature, finding solace and inspiration in its rhythms and cycles. The exhibition captures the essence of both light and darkness, offering a contemplative contrast to the frenetic stimuli of the digital world.
